Phase 2 - Have your say

Have Your Say

Council is seeking feedback from the community on the flood risk assessment and management measures that are being considered.

The flood risk assessment is presented on a series of maps and can be viewed and downloaded at the links below:

  • Splitters Creek flood risk assessment
  • Wandal & West Rockhampton flood risk assessment.

The flood risk assessment identified areas where management options could be applied. Some of the management options Council may consider include:

  • Channel widening
  • Culvert or underground drainage network upgrades
  • Provision or upgrade of swales or basins
  • Creek vegetation management
  • Resilient buildings and planning.

Council would also like to understand what management options are important to the community.

Please complete the survey if you would like to provide feedback on the flood risk assessment and management measures.

Feedback can also be provided in person at one of the drop-in sessions:

  • Tom Brady Park, Hinchliff Street, Kawana, 1pm – 5pm, Wednesday 16 July 2025
  • Alf Kele Memorial Rotary Park (opposite the pool), 1pm – 5pm, Thursday 17 July 2025

Your individual feedback is private. The details you provide in this survey are not visible to the public or others completing the survey. General comments, not publicly attributed to specific people, may be included in the community consultation report for transparency and community understanding. The information provided in this survey will be used by Rockhampton Regional Council and its contractor (AECOM Australia Pty Ltd (AECOM)) for the purposes of the Studies. In collecting and dealing with personal information, AECOM is subject to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act), the Australian Privacy Principles and any applicable State or Territory privacy laws.

Flood Maps

A Flood Risk Assessment is a process that assesses the potential for flooding in a particular area, and the potential impact and consequences of flooding. This assessment provides basis for identifying areas of highest risk and potential management options in these locations.

The elements that make up the Flood Risk include Flood Hazard, Time to Flood, Likelihood, Flood Damages, Isolation and some other additional considerations.

Council have provided Flood Risk maps for each of the catchments and would like to gain your feedback on these Flood Risk Maps

Flood management options

Part of the study includes preparing a flood risk assessment to identify problem flooding areas and assess potential flood management options. Some of the management options may include:

  • Channel widening to increase flow capacity and reduce the severity of flooding to nearby areas.
  • Culvert or underground network drainage upgrades. This includes replacing or enlarging existing culverts to increase flow capacity, remove blockages, and reduce water backing up and flooding roads or properties.
  • Provision or upgrade of swales or basins to slow down stormwater runoff, filter pollutants, and enhance water soaking into the ground.
  • Creek vegetation management. Removing overgrown or invasive species that obstruct flow, thinning dense vegetation to reduce the risk of blockages, and planting native species that stabilise banks and prevent erosion, enhancing water absorption.
  • Resilient buildings and planning including designing or retrofitting buildings to withstand, recover from, or reduce damage caused by flooding, and updating Council planning controls.

Council will select management options through a multi-criteria analysis. Council will bring these options into its stormwater management priority programme. The priority programme will then provide opportunity for seeking funding from all levels of government for their detailed assessment, design and implementation.

Council would like to understand what management options you would like to see in your area.
