Flood Risk Management Studies - Splitters Creek, Wandal & West Rockhampton
Rockhampton Regional Council is undertaking Flood Risk Management Studies for Splitters Creek, Wandal and West Rockhampton. These studies are about understanding and managing flood risks in the three catchments.
The Studies will help Council understand current and future flood behaviour, which is fundamental to making decisions on how best to manage flood risks into the future.
The Studies will assess the nature and extent of the existing flooding problem, including how potential changes to the climate will impact flood behaviour such as more frequent cyclones. Once it is understood where the current and future risks are, the Studies will identify options that Council could potentially put in place to better manage existing and future flood risk. Council will use the outcomes of the Flood Studies to make planning decisions, to protect the community, and inform flood risk mitigation in a Floodplain Risk Management Plan.
This Study will also help set a blueprint for flood risk management in the region.
Community input is a critical part to building an accurate and detailed flood model. The community are invited to participate in the development of the Studies at the data collection stage and feedback will be invited on the proposed flood risk management options.
Consultation Milestones:
Survey – Open 12 March to 28 March
In person consultation – Mid May

Have you experienced flooding at your home in the past? Do you have information or even photos to share with our team? Your input will help Council complete the Studies.
Information we are looking for includes:
Flood marks
Photos

Newspaper clippings
Observations such as timing, depth, extent
Feedback on flood management.
It can be as simple as “in the 2017 flood, the water came up to my back steps”.
Please complete the survey if you would like to share information and experiences of flooding at your residential and / or business property.
Your individual feedback is private. The details you provide in this survey are not visible to the public or others completing the survey. General comments, not publicly attributed to specific people, may be included in the community consultation report for transparency and community understanding.
