Growing South Gracemere - Local Area Plan

South Gracemere has experienced significant growth in recent years, including periods of rapid urban development and population growth. Rockhampton Regional Council has identified the need for a Local Area Plan to help ensure future growth delivers positive outcomes for the current and future community.

Council has engaged AECOM Australia Pty Ltd to develop the South Gracemere Local Area Plan.

The Local Area Plan will:

  • outline a clear vision for the future of South Gracemere;
  • provide strategies to support delivery of this vision;
  • include a framework to guide where future development may occur; and
  • establish development control measures to help shape quality design outcomes for the area.

The project will also consider key land use matters including unlocking housing supply, as well as planning for non-residential uses such as activity centres, sports and recreation facilities, parks, and community infrastructure.

The Local Area Plan will be informed by undertaking background planning reports and ongoing collaboration with stakeholders and the community, reflecting South Gracemere’s social, economic and environmental context. This includes capturing community values and aspirations for future growth and development.

This project is partly funded by the Queensland Government’s Scheme Supply Fund, which supports local governments to plan for and unlock housing supply, improve planning schemes, and respond to local housing needs through Local Housing Action Plans.
