Consultation has concluded

Rockhampton Regional Council is progressing investigations for the Flood Risk Management Studies (FRMS) for the local creek and catchment areas of Frenchmans and Thozets Creeks, Moores Creek and South Rockhampton. The studies are currently underway and expected to be completed in 2024.

Project phases

The Flood Risk Management Studies for Frenchmans and Thozets Creeks, Moores Creek and South Rockhampton will provide an important response for addressing current and future flooding concerns for these catchment areas. Gaining community feedback throughout development of the studies is integral for the project team, assisting to corroborate data and provide insights into individual flooding experiences. To inform the study, consultation is being completed in three separate phases, as outlined below.

Phase 1: Initial Community Consultation (Completed)

Completed in June 2023, phase 1 asked residents to provide their first-hand experience from past flood events, helping to corroborate technical investigations being completed.

Phase 2: Consultation of Flood Risk Assessment Outcomes (Completed)

Completed in October 2023, phase 2 provided residents with an outline of the flood risks. Residents had the opportunity to engage directly with the project team to provide feedback and input into the flood risks identified and the flood risk management measures being developed.

Phase 3: Consultation on Flood Risk Management Outcomes (Upcoming)

In phase 3, we are undertaking assessment of conceptual flood risk mitigation options within high ranking priority areas. These options might be creek widening, culvert/underground network upgrades, creek vegetation management, resilient buildings and so on. Residents are encouraged to provide feedback at community consultation sessions.

Two community sessions will be held to share these outcomes and offer the opportunity for the community to ask questions and provide comment. Members of the community are welcome to attend the following sessions that best suits their availability:

  • North Rockhampton (Moores, Frenchmans and Thozets Creek) Session on 29 November 2023 at Rigarlsford Park, Elphinstone Street, 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM
  • South Rockhampton Session on 30 November 2023, Victoria Park, 2.00 PM to 4:30 PM

As the conclusion of the studies, the project team will have developed a range of maps that illustrate the varying nature of flood risk across the study area and develop a number of conceptual mitigation measures to assist in addressing flood risks. These mitigation measures will be considered by Council in terms of priority and budgetary spending.

If you have any questions, please contact Council’s Infrastructure Planning department on 1300 225 577 or email infrastructureplanning@rrc.qld.gov.au.
