How long will the project take?
The project is expected to begin in October 2025 and be completed by October 2026, weather and ground conditions permitting.
Will I still be able to access the emergency department at the Rockhampton Base Hospital?
Yes, access to the emergency department at Rockhampton Base Hospital will be maintained throughout the project, with traffic control in place.
Will I be able to park along Canning Street, near the hospital?
No. Approximately 32 parking spaces along Canning Street (between Voss Street and Cambridge Street) will be unavailable for the duration of the works to allow safe construction and maintain single-lane traffic flow.
Where can I park during the works that offers all-day free parking?
This is still being determined. Council is currently assessing options for alternative parking arrangements and will provide updates once confirmed.
Will I be able to access the multi-storey car park?
Yes, the most efficient way to access it is via North Street.
Why does the project take 12 months?
The 12-month timeline is due to several factors, including the need to maintain single-lane traffic during construction, the presence of underground rock, and modifications to existing services and infrastructure.
Will works be done only during the day, or will there be night works?
At this stage, works are planned during the day.
Will there be road closures?
Yes. Road closures will occur at various times depending on the construction schedule and specific tasks. Details will be communicated as the program progresses.
Will I still be able to access my property, receive mail and have my bins collected?
Yes, although access to your driveway may change temporarily during certain stages of works. Advance notice will be provided. Australia Post and bin collection will still take place.
