Rockhampton Regional Council is undertaking reconstruction works on Canning Street, from Voss Street to Cambridge Street, to improve safety, road quality, and pedestrian access in the area.

These include:
Safer pedestrian crossings with new two-metre-wide refuge islands on Albert and Canning Streets.
Wider footpaths on both sides of Canning Street for better accessibility, especially for people with mobility aids.
Improved traffic flow and safety with new turning lanes, extended medians, and controlled access at key intersections.
Better emergency department access with dedicated turning lanes and safer entry/exit points.
Key upgrades include:
a new 2m wide pedestrian refuge crossing on Albert Street;
install rumble bars to reduce turning speeds;
restrict movements at Voss St to left in/left out;
new channelised right-turn lane into emergency department access and extend existing median island to reinforce movement restrictions;
left out only at emergency department access;
left out at Geriatric and Rehabilitation Services driveway of hospital site;
new channelised right turn lane from Canning Street onto Albert Street;
new 2.0-2.5m shared path both sides of Canning Street;
restrict movements at Cambridge Street (both sides) to left in/left out;
provide u-turn facility on Cambridge Street for cars only;
new 2m wide pedestrian refuge crossing on Canning Street;
replacement of trees near Cambridge Street end.
Access to Rockhampton Hospital and car park during roadworks
During the Canning Street roadworks, please access the Rockhampton Hospital Emergency Department and the multi-storey car park via the North Street roundabout. This temporary change will help keep everyone safe and ensure continued access while upgrades are underway.
