FAQs
Why are you changing the lid colours?
We’re changing dark green general waste bin lids to red.
This change brings all local waste collection wheelie bins in line with the national standards, making it easier to identify the correct bin to use, whether you are at home, out and about or even if you’re on holidays.
It will create consistency, making sorting easier for everyone.
How are the lids swapped over?
On your normal collection day, a team will follow the general waste collection route, checking for bins with dark green lids. If your bin has a dark green lid, the team will swap it out for a new red lid - quick and easy!
What do I need to do if I have a dark green lid on my general waste bin?
If your general waste bin has a dark green lid, simply place it out for collection on your usual bin day during the program period. To allow enough time for the lid changeover, please ensure it’s out from 6am to 6pm.
Lid replacements will take place from Monday, 14 July 2025 until August 2025, weather and project constraints permitting.
What happens if my bin lid has not been changed yet?
If you notice another bin in your street receive a red lid but your bin hasn't, don't be concerned as your lid will be changed over.
If by some chance your bin lid is missed during the project they will be identified on one of your proceeding collection days and changed then.
What are you doing with the dark green lids once they’ve been removed?
Dark green lids removed from general waste bins will be returned to Council’s bin manufacturer, melted down and repurposed to produce new bins!
My bin is damaged/broken, will it be fixed when they change my lid?
No. The bin lid changeover team will not have the correct equipment to do routine bin repairs during bin lid swaps.
If your bin requires repair, submit an online request for bin repair or phone Council on 07 4932 9000.
I already have a red lid but it’s damaged, will it be replaced?
No. The bin lid changeover team will only be equipped to replace dark green lids.
If your bin requires repair, submit an online request for bin repair or phone Council on 07 4932 9000.
Will my collection day stay the same?
There is no change to bin days. Council will continue to service all general waste bins (dark green and red lidded bins) presented for collection.
Check your bin collection day by using our handy ‘search your bin day’ tool.
