Consultation has concluded
Last year Council conducted a survey to gain an insight into how the community feels about our dog off leash areas in the Rockhampton region.
The feedback showed an overwhelming need to provide additional and larger areas for dog owners to take their dogs for a run off leash.
From this consultation, options for potential dog friendly parks and off leash areas have been identified.
Complete the quick survey below to tell us your thoughts on the proposed dog friendly parks and off leash areas.
What is a dog friendly park?
A dog friendly park is an authorised park area where the community are permitted to have their dogs off leash, while following a set of rules that will be outlined on entry signage at these parks. These rules include:
Dogs must be under voice or signal control at all times
Clean up after your dogs
No aggressive behaviour
No dogs on heat are permitted in a public place
Dogs must be registered
Owners must carry a leash at all time
Immediately fill holes or fix any damage your dog may cause
These areas will typically be unfenced with limited facilities. An existing example of a dog friendly park in the region is Duthie Park in Frenchville.

We want to hear your thoughts on proposed dog friendly parks and off leash areas in the region.
If the feedback we receive is positive, we will look at trialling dog friendly areas for 12 months in the identified parks.
Please note, the trial arrangement is not guaranteed, and your feedback will play an important part in whether or not we go ahead with the proposed dog friendly parks.
