Bin Health Check Program

Let's get it sorted Rocky Region!

Knowing how to sort your household items into the right bin increases resource recovery, builds a local circular economy and helps reach zero waste to landfill.

To give your bins a health check-up, our local Bin Health Professionals will be out and about, doing a simple ‘lift the lid’ visual bin health assessment of household bins.

Between March through to October 2025*, we will visit your bins on your scheduled collection day (prior to your collection service) to carry out a quick check to:

  • See if your recyclable items are placed loose and clean into your yellow lid recycling bin,
  • Spot if there is any contamination in your yellow lid bin, and
  • Scan for lost recyclable items in your red lid general waste bin.

While they are there, they will also:

  • Provide feedback to your household by attaching a bin tag onto your bin, and
  • Leave information and resources to help your household get your recycling sorted.

Improving Our Recycling Habits

As part of Council’s Bin Health Check Program, a small number of households* across the region have been randomly selected to receive a second and third check on their yellow lid recycling bin.

These follow-up checks help us:

  • Meet State Government funding and reporting requirements,
  • Help measure the effectiveness of our educational resources,
  • Identify opportunities to enhance future education programs, and
  • Understand how correct household recycling habits are put into practice over time.

This check is completely random and is all about understanding recycling behaviours.

*Households receiving additional checks have received notification in letterboxes.
